Functions:
During the reconstruction of the Bundesrealgymnasium Gänserndorf, school operations in Gärtnergasse are not possible. For this reason, an alternative accommodation in container construction is being built on the property of the municipality of Gänserndorf on Hafergrubenweg. It is a temporary accommodation which will be built for a maximum of two years. After that the temporary accommodation will be dismantled and the property will be restored to its original condition.
In the course of renovation or expansion, parts are broken off. In their place, the high school will be extended by a three-story annex that will connect the two remaining existing buildings. From the main entrance of the existing administration building, a staircase leads directly to the basement, as before. In the future, the generously designed checkroom, technical and storage rooms as well as a warm-up kitchen will be located there. After completion, the adjacent new building will also house a dining hall, multi-purpose room, several regular classes and group rooms. A large number of decentralized break areas invite students to linger between lessons. At the northern end of the annex, the existing gymnasium wing is accessed, where music is also taught.
The heart of the new building will be a central, multi-story auditorium. Seating steps connecting all levels will not only create a place for communication and meeting. The new building thus becomes a vertical link in addition to the horizontal one.
Challenges overcome:
Organization of a substitute school in the alternative accommodation. Implementation of high-quality architecture within the given budget.
